In 1979, Doug Rogers and Aubrey Good opened a restaurant in Arlington, Texas, with a simple idea serve fresh, homemade-style meals at prices people could afford. They wanted a place where families and friends could enjoy quality food in a warm and relaxed setting.
The name “Cheddar’s” came from a 5th-grade student’s suggestion, and it stuck. At first, it was called Cheddar’s Casual Café, but as the restaurant grew, so did its commitment to scratch-made food. To reflect this, the name changed to Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, highlighting their focus on meals made fresh in-house.
In 2017, Darden Restaurants Inc., a well-known restaurant company, acquired Cheddar’s, helping it expand across the U.S. Today, Cheddar’s continues to serve hearty, homemade meals while staying true to its original vision.
